Could you support people who have learning disabilities? Could you help create a relaxed and homely environment? Do you want your influence to last long after your shift ends?
The people who make their home in St Albans are aged mid-twenties to mid-sixties. They have multiple learning and physical disabilities. They don't have much verbal communication, but you'll become great at picking upon on small non-verbal cues. You'll discover that every tiny thing you do has an impact, and when you get it right, you'll know you got it right: you'll get a chuckle or a smile, you'll see someone's body relax or their eyes light up.
People need support with a range of activities from the everyday living needs and ‘must dos’ such as assisting with medications, intimate care and feeding (which is sometimes via a peg tube) through to the lighter side of life: swimming, arts and crafts, getting out and about locally in their mini-bus. We all share mealtimes, with staff cooking beautiful food that everyone enjoys.
There's a multi-disciplinary staff team plus registered nurses who are on shift at all times, so you will always be supported too.
We have full-time (37.5 hours a week) and part-time (various) roles available.
You'll take your turn working shifts on a rota, including days, evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
There are no sleep-ins or night shifts.
