Role:              Housing Support Assistant

Hours:           16 (flexible working is required which may require working 4 days over 7 days on a rota basis)

Salary:           £9.30 p/h (£7,758 pa)

The ExtraCare Charitable Trust are recruiting for a Housing Support Assistant to support our residents to maintain their tenancy or lease; to help them access the wide variety of services and activities to them within our retirement village; and to assist with monitoring their safety and wellbeing at Hughenden Gardens Village

As our Housing Support Assistant, you will work within a small housing support team with responsibility for showing potential residents around the village; helping to settle in residents to their new home; and responding to tenancy or lease issues that may arise. You will monitor residents’ wellbeing daily, and generally work to ensure that they thrive within a retirement village setting. This will include regular resident visits; involvement in community meetings and working with other teams to ensure resident needs are met.   

Reporting to the Senior Housing Support Assistant, you will work closely with the Care team, Well Being Advisor and Dementia Support Enabler to ensure that every opportunity is maximised and to put the activities programme at the heart of life within your location. You will work with the support of a Housing Officer, designated to the Village to support them with ensuring the tenancy / lease are complied with. 

You will need a passion for working with older people, a commitment to delivering excellent customer service and a willingness to work in partnership with other teams and agencies to deliver positive outcomes for our residents. You will have previous experience in housing or customer service and be able to think creatively to solve issues, be empathetic, and be able to work both alone and within a team. 

The Housing team work across a 7 day a week, including weekend cover, and evenings as may be required as part of a rota. About you:

  • Previous experience of working in housing or customer service sectors
  • Engaging, positive and ability to work both alone and within a team
  • Empathetic, friendly and able to build relationships with residents who will have varying needs.

Hughenden Gardens Retirement Village has 260 apartments and provides a whole range of communal social and leisure facilities in the village Centre which is open to residents, their families and members of the wider local community. These include a village hall, library, IT suite, bar and bistro, fitness gym, hairdressing and beauty salon and shop.

Key objectives for this role are:

We will support residents to maintain their tenancy or leases by:

  • Carrying out annual resident visits to each resident who wishes to receive them, using the visit as an opportunity to signpost to relevant services
  • Providing responsive advice and assistance in respect of the tenancy or lease, and signpost to relevant services 

We will support residents to understand and pay their rent / charges by:

  • Helping residents to understand rent letters, explain what action needs to be taken and provide assistance 
  • Supporting residents to fill in forms to claim relevant benefits, and refer residents to Welfare Benefits Advice service if required

We will support residents to access housing-related services by:

  • Supporting residents to raise a repair request and ensuring repairs are completed 
  • Supporting residents to report anti-social behaviour so that it can be investigated and involving other agencies as required

We will help ensure residents safety and wellbeing by:

  • Supporting residents to access well-being service, activities, volunteering opportunities
  • Helping to maintain the safety of residents through issuing specific advice and inspections to ensure compliance with fire safety 
  • Monitor daily wellbeing checks and respond to emergencies as required

We will help ensure residents have a say in how their Village is run by:

  • Facilitating Street Meetings, making available notes of meetings, and ensuring issues raised are addressed
  • Supporting residents to give feedback on services (‘We’re Listening) and to make a complaint in the event of a service failure
