Job Description

Established in 1956, IAM RoadSmart (formerly The Institute of Advanced Motorists) is a leading road safety charity focused on making better drivers & riders.

We are pleased to offer a Digital Support Technician Level 3 apprenticeship for approx. 18 months based at our Welwyn Garden City Office. This is a fantastic entry level role for a recent school leaver who lives in or close to Welwyn Garden City in Hertfordshire.

This role will support internal users throughout IAM and will provide first-line desktop and software support both onsite and remotely including end-user workstation support, various other IT related hardware, software support, basic server housekeeping and assisting in the LAN/WAN infrastructure and maintaining an up to date asset register for all end-user equipment.

There will also be the opportunity to be involved in several key IT infrastructure projects.


  • To provide 1st line IT support and advice across the organisation
  • To maintain an inventory of all hardware, software licenses, and keep a register of all borrowed IT equipment
  • To undertake an annual audit of this inventory and to report on the results
  • Build and deploy new PC's using Windows 10
  • To maintain company mobile phones and update applications
  • To perform basic diagnosis and resolution of software and hardware faults
  • To keep abreast of developments in the field of IT and undertake research as appropriate and advise emerging technologies and their applicability to the organisation

  • Good technical knowledge of IT with good familiarity of Microsoft Office applications

  • Willingness to get involved and to learn



GCSE in maths and English at Level 4/C or above or equivalent
