Overview

We are looking for an affable, meticulous and customer service-oriented Exams Officer to join our school. This is a particularly rewarding and centrally important post and the main purpose is to lead and manage the complete external examinations process and most elements of internal examinations. The role requires strong communications skills, a high level of accuracy and organisation, computer literacy and the ability to manage expenditure.  

This is an ideal opportunity to play a central role in our warm and strong community, providing the very best exams support and experience to our students and great service for our staff and parents. We will welcome applications from both experienced exams officers and those with transferrable experience and attributes.

Salary: Pay Scale 5 (£26,171 - £28,426 FTE/£23,586 - £25,998)

Hours: 37 hours per week for 41 weeks (term time) plus 2 weeks, mainly in August

Start date: October/November 2020

About the role

Main duties and responsibilities: 

  • Lead and manage external examinations and coursework
  • Ensure that the conduct and running of all external examinations complies with the regulations set out by the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) as well as school procedures
  • Communicate effectively with staff, parents, students and examination boards to ensure the smooth running of the examinations system
  • Liaise with school leadership staff to establish best working practices and policies covering organisation of exams and mandatory reporting requirements
  • Operate cost effectively within the examination budget – managing budget expenditure and authorising spend within budget provision
  • To carry out duties as may be required from time to time commensurate with the overall responsibility of the post
  • To safeguard and promote the welfare of pupils in your care and ensure all Health and Safety regulations covering staff and pupils are complied with
  • Work towards and support the school vision and the current school objectives outlined in the School Development Plan

About you

  • University Degree or Equivalent (D)
  • Five A* - C grades at GCSE including English and Maths, or equivalent (E)
  • Experience of using ICT to support administration including using spreadsheets and Word (E)
  • Experience of administering database systems involving large numbers of staff and/or students or large data sets (E)
  • Working in a school environment (D)
  • Successful experience of dealing with a range of routine office tasks (E) 
  • Experience of working to very tight deadlines (E)
  • Experience of working with young people (D)
  • Managing and leading staff (D)
