This is a 3rd line technical role underpinning the activities of all ICT users in Milton Keynes Council. Currently the role assists in supporting the underlying desktop virtualisation platform, SCCM and MDM configuration, policy development and automated deployment to key hardware, and several corporate services including compliance, messaging, security, patching (antivirus, application security and version updates) and core Microsoft services. The IT Systems team’s role is to implement, support and maintain Milton Keynes Councils desktop core IT management software which enables Milton Keynes Council to effectively deliver services to staff, customers and citizens. These include but are not limited to SCCM / Intune configuration and management, VDI provisioning, infrastructure license allocation and monitoring. The systems team are responsible for updating all desktop software and remediating any failures of PSN compliance. In addition to working as part of the IT Systems team, the IT Systems Team Engineer will provide input, best practice guidance and support of core desktop infrastructure solutions utilised by Milton Keynes Council. The role will also provide technical support for the delivery of projects (both implementations and upgrades) and in this capacity they will be required to present technical information to non-technical colleagues.

Key Duties

  • Provide support, development and technical administration of SCCM / Intune configuration and management, VDI provisioning and Monitoring
  • Undertake Virtual Infrastructure Support & Maintenance (Virtual Server & VDI Estate) with ongoing operational oversight, patching, and upgrades.
  • Undertake VDI Support & Maintenance (Gold Image, AppStack Profilers, Horizon View, Thin Client management, policies/compliance)
  • Control, configure, develop and manage the SCCM and MDM environments for support & maintenance.

Experience, Qualifications and any Mandatory Requirements

  • Educated to A level. or equivalent or NVQ level 3, BTEC or equivalent qualification in ICT
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a technical role in a medium to large organisation.

Skills Required

  • Experience of virtualization technologies (VDI)
  • Experience of SCCM
  • Extensive experience of Windows server technologies
  • Experience of working within a defined Change Management framework
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including an ability to communicate technical points at a user level and a good telephone manner
