Clinical Coder - band 4
We are looking for an enthusiastic, energetic and motivated Clinical Coder to join an established Clinical Coding Department. The successful candidate must have attended and passed the Clinical Coding Standards Course and have at least 12 months of experience working as a Clinical Coder within the NHS using ICD-10 and OPCS-4 .
The successful applicant will need to be up to the challenges of working in a busy department within a constantly changing environment. Candidates must have previous experience and have a methodical and detailed approach to their work and an enthusiasm to continue to learn.
The successful applicant will need to demonstrate a high level of clinical coding skill and the ability to work to a high degree of accuracy with attention to detail. You must be able to work well under pressure and be flexible in your approach and you must be able to work well as part of a team working to tight deadlines.
You should have a good understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology. Good IT skills are also necessary as are good communication skills, as the role will necessitate discussions with Clinicians and other key staff.
If you are successful you will be expected to work towards taking the National Clinical Coding Qualification to become an Accredited Clinical Coder (ACC). Once accredited you would become a Senior Clinical Coder and move to a Band 5 salary.

Previous NHS experience in an acute hospital setting would be desirable but not essential as would PAS skills. Previous clerical experience, keyboard skills and knowledge of IT software packages are essential.
