Specific Job Description

The Supplier Subcontract Manager is a key role within the Lockheed Martin UK Global Supply Chain Organisation based at Ampthill, Bedfordshire. The successful candidate will join a renowned international defence company, with a range of technically innovative products and excellent opportunities for career progression, personal and professional development. 
This type of role is generally accountable for defining and managing major complex subcontracts in the either armoured fighting vehicles, ground based air defence or space domains to meet domestic and international programme needs.  LMUK(Ampthill) has a worldwide supply base although predominantly in the UK, Europe, Middle East and the US.
This specific role will focus on the development and delivery of vital components of a ground based air defence system as part of a programme led from the US to meet the requirements of international market.
Opportunities also exist to develop comprehensive supply chain strategies and solutions to support bids, proposals in the Defence Sector and commercial environments.
The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, determined and committed, a confident self-starter, with an ability to drive and implement change where appropriate. They will be a team player with strong management skills, coupled with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  They will have outstanding senior stakeholder management skills and have the flexibility to travel as required in both the UK and abroad.
Specific responsibilities include:
 

  • Defining and implementing complex supply chain strategies to meet Customer, Business and Programme objectives, including
    • Determining the nature and scope of subcontracts, leading the negotiation, award and execution
    • Defining and managing the appropriate team (internal and external) structure to deliver Customer, Business and Programme objectives
    • Achieving cost, schedule, programme and technical performance targets
    • Achieving Customer/Programme/Subcontract KPI’s
  • Holding a delegation of authority and signing supplier agreements and purchase orders within this.
  • Leading:
    • multifunctional subcontract management teams, including representatives from engineering, finance and quality.
    • the development of subcontract documentation including statement of work and terms/conditions for the negotiation, award and execution of subcontracts covering specialised materials, equipment, services and support requirements.
  • Preparing, awarding and managing changes to subcontracts.

Required skills, qualifications and experience

  • Proven ability to manage multiple medium to high value suppliers and associated subcontracts to meet cost, schedule, programme and technical performance requirements.
  • Experience in working in a multi-functional matrix organisation
  • Excellent Programme management, Commercial, Financial and Technical management acumen.
  • Capable of identifying and mitigating risks and implementing effective mitigation strategies
  • Able to achieve delivery to tight schedules in a dynamic work environment
  • Willing to adapt to meet changing business needs
  • Outstanding senior stakeholder management
  • Excellent communication skills

Desired skills, qualifications and experience

  • Supply chain experience in the defence sector.
  • Knowledge of Defence Standards and Contracting Principles
  • Knowledge of SAP (or similar) ERP systems.
  • Experience as a supply chain professional in developing subcontracts to support new business including bids and captures for complex items and systems.
